My Love for Baking

     Over the past couple of years, I have been a large fan of baking. It started out with buying the box cake and brownie mix at the store, but I eventually found myself making recipes from scratch and sharing with those I love. For some reason, I found a fascination with discovering new recipes, and I began researching recipes to make varying from snickerdoodle cookies to chocolate macarons. Baking cookies may be easy, but when it comes to more intricate baked goods such as French macarons and tiered cakes, you must be very precise or else the result will not be what was expected. Over quarantine starting in August 2020, I decided that I wanted to share my love and passion for baking with my community in Gilroy and the surrounding cities as well as family and teammates. I began running a small baking business named Bianca’s Baked Goods(@Biancas.bakedgoods on Instagram), and I ran each and every part of this small business.  It was challenging at first as I handled scheduling, product ordering, managing social media, and so much more while being in school and playing softball. The first day I opened my orders up, I received over 20 individual orders which was a lot for one person to fulfill in a timely manner. I ended up finishing all of the orders, but with a few all-nighters. Business began to slow, but I was still receiving multiple orders a week, just at a slower rate which was great when college application season was coming up. Sharing my passion for baking with those I love warms my heart, and even now, I continue to bake for my friends and suite mates to show how much I care for them and to enjoy a tasty treat. Also, pictured below is a chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting that I made earlier this year.

    This is so cool! I took a baking course over a summer, and it gave me an immense respect for bakers (I could barely pull off cookies from scratch). Running a business on top of that is very impressive.

    I baked for the first time last summer and it was fairly enjoyable. I think it's so cool how creative people get with baking though and all the designs, to the point where the look far outshines the taste. I personally prefer the taste

    Wow, Bianca! It is incredible to see how you opened a small business and have overcome all the challenges that have come your way. My grandma owns a small business in Venezuela and it's always so inspiring and fulfilling to see her success and how she runs her business. It is wonderful to hear how you opened your business to share your passion with others! Would love to buy something from you sometime!

      After reading the beginning of Antigone and after finishing Home Fire , I noticed many similarities and differences between the parallel characters in both pieces of work. Korean Workers In Japan

       The topic I was assigned for Colin’s visit is Korean Workers In Japan. The image I chose was an image of colonial workers recruiting workers in Korea to take to Japan. Due to the shortage of labor in the Japanese economy in the 1920’s, Koreans who wanted employment and educational opportunities migrated to Japan. At this time, most of the workers were mainly men, but there were women as well. These workers engaged in work involving physical labor because they were poorly educated and usually illiterate. The two jobs that were very populated by Koreans were mining and factories. According to the Stanford Program on International and Cross- Cultural Education,” Between 1939 and 1945, the Japanese government brought 700,000-800,000 Koreans to work in Japan.” A large amount of these Korean workers in Japan faced many difficulties such as racial discrimination and economic exploitation, and the Japanese nationals wanted the Koreans to fully assimilate to Japanese society by offering

My Favorite Restaurant

       Out of all of the restaurants I have been to in the United States, I would say my favorite restaurant is Jardines in San Juan, California. The food is absolutely delightful and the ambiance is very tranquil. My favorite thing about this restaurant is not the food, but the outdoor seating. There are multiple tables located outdoors, and during the beginning of the pandemic, my family chose this restaurant because outdoor seating was required and indoor seating was prohibited. From that point on, this became our go-to spot. Another reason why I love this beautiful and peaceful restaurant is that I can bring my German Shepherd and he can enjoy being with his family. The food is also very delicious, and the menu has a variety of plates. The menu includes all types of Mexican food, but you can order a plate of enchiladas with rice and beans or an a la carte taco of your choice.
